Open Day at Causeymire Wind Farm 9 May 2026

Causeymire wind farm in Caithness has been operational since 2004. As it becomes vital to combat climate change by producing more electricity from renewable sources, allowing fossil fuels to be phased out, we are proposing to repower the wind farm with fewer, larger wind turbines which can produce electricity more efficiently.

Our original proposed repower layout as displayed at our first round of exhibitions in November 2025, was for 13 turbines. Following further surveys and EIA work in relation to our repowering project together with information received from National Grid with regards to grid restrictions in the Causeymire area, we have now decided to reduce this to 7 proposed turbines and have submitted a Pre Application Notification to the council, a copy of which can be found here.

This would bring the total installed capacity of the wind farm to 49MW, helping to meet the Scottish Government’s targets for reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and powering Scotland with clean, green energy.
